Distribution of ABO and RH Blood Groups in Western Region of Nepal

INTRODUCTION Determination of ABO and Rh blood group types are clinically important for various purposes including transfusion. There is a wide regional, racial, ethnic variability among these groups. We aim to determine the patterns in patients attending tertiary care center Western Nepal. MATERIAL AND METHODS This hospital-based cross-sectional study involved 600 visiting Universal College Medical Sciences (UCMS), Bhairahawa undergoing determination. The was conducted six months from 1st January 30th June 2017. Ethical clearance taken prior study. Written verbal consent were each participant before Blood determined using open slide test method reverse grouping performed via tube method. Finally, Rh-DU Rh-negative samples weak D antigen. RESULTS Among group, most common O (34.2%) followed by B (29.2%) A (25.3%). Sub-group analysis showed only one A2 sub-group, remaining being A1. Majority positive (95.8%). All negative tested Du as well. overall distribution pattern combined ABO-Rh O+ > B+ A+ AB+ O-> A- =B- AB-. CONCLUSION In current study, Nepal positive, respectively. AB-negative rarest group. can provide insight future hematological studies.
